Pakistan's proxy war n Kashmir is nothing new.  It is possible that in this round the military across the border became more ambitious, hoping to take advantage of the fluid political situation in India.  However, what the Pakistani brass failed to take into account was the firmness of the Indian response.

    Ieat politicians for breakfast," roared TN Seshan in an in­terview once.  As the Chief Election Cornmissioner, he had become larger than the institution he represented. For his taking some bold and unprecedented decisions, the me­dia turned Mr Seshan into a middle-class hero. However, thanks to a supportive public, which was tiring of politicians and their antics, Mr Seshan actually started to think of himself as the “chosen one”!  In the process, he gave himself a status equal to that of a Supreme Court judge and converted the Nirvachan Sadan into a virtual fortress.  So much so, that even his own colleagues and members of the staff kept a safe distance from his line of fire.  After his retirement, the Shiv Sena very cleverly fuelled his politician ambitions.

The ongoing crisis in the Indian Navy is bound going to leave in its wake memories of the bitterest conflict between the present chief, Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat, and others. "Never in the history of the Navy, in any part of the world, have there been so many writ petitions and wild allegations filed by admirals, including a Naval Chief, yet all of them have strangely been buried by the Government without even a simple enquiry. This has irreparably damaged the morale and fibre of the force.
